On first hearing, the interpretation of the song could be the internal narrative of a Subbuteo player being thoroughly beaten by their opponent. The more artistic interpretation is about feeling like you're a hapless Subbuteo figure in a relationship with someone who can flick like a top, top, top, top player!
The conundrum of the need to win with those you play with, can be a contentious issue in the niche world of Subbuteo (otherwise known as 'life'!)
Why is this? Probably because it lies at the centre of societal relationships. Can two people create more than the sum of the parts between them, or it is a 'zero-sum' game, where one person's gain is another person's loss?
The Black Museum have captured this concept in Subbuteoic prose (nestled within driving guitar riffs!). Will their heartfelt message encourage players to truly believe the figures they flick are actually alive - with individual personalities and earnest aspirations to be a valued part of the team?
